Passed Atlantic Yacht Basin, but then found us
When my wife and I were living on our 55 foot sailboat for a year and a half, we learned which boatyards between Canada and Key West were best. The Atlantic Yacht Basin was clearly on that small list. It is embarrassing to say that our first time headed south from Marblehead, Massachusetts we passed AYB without knowing how many beautiful boats and how large a repair operation was out of sight on the west side of the Intracoastal.
AYB could not have been more understanding and accommodating
I must confess that I found myself smiling and nodding as I read your write up (Ed Tillett, Waterway Guide) on the Atlantic Yacht Basin. My boat (Orion) has been there since early November. I had to cut my cruising season short due family health issues. I departed with a list of authorized repairs scheduled and a return date of mid-January. In the interim my wife fell and broke her back and I ended up with a sever case of COVID. Throughout the entire experience the folks at AYB could not have been more understanding and accommodating. We plan on resuming our boating adventures at the end of the month. I think leaving will be a family type of experience. No doubt AYB is incredibly talented and professional. You don’t always experience the heart and soul. Take my word for it! They have plenty.
We were not disappointed with the choice

We brought our boat here for extensive body repairs after hurricane damage. We were not disappointed with the choice. James did a great job coordinating and managing our repairs. In addition to the damage, we did a good bit of routine maintenance as well. Very happy with all the work. Yes, there are probably more economical options but we wanted quality work and felt we got that. We did winter storage as well. As has been noted by others, AYB does not have extensive marina facilities, but it is walking distance to several restaurants, shopping, and a decent grocery. All of the staff are cordial, helpful and knowledgeable.
The Best Yard on the East Coast

We have continued to get our Selene 55 and our new Marlow 70 serviced on each trip through VA on our annual migration north from and south to Key West. These guys are clearly among the best yards on the East Coast based on our many visits. Whether upgrading electrical and electronics or doing anything cosmetic, they do great work at good prices and always stand behind their work.

When we purchased Shangri-La at AYB, we knew she needed some updating and refreshing. The James and Marty at AYB lead a professional team of ‘get it done’ tradesmen. Whenever something came up needing a pro to get involved, they were on it pronto. We had a lot of work done. The total package came in on budget and on time for our scheduled arrival. Thank you all for a great experience!

We stopped by here on ARIES 5/9 for a night and we were happy we did! Ed did a great job moving boats around, then giving us the tour of all the sheds. Folks here could not have been more helpful. Dock masters are on duty here 24 hours and we took on fuel 0600 the next morning. Next time, we will stay awhile! Anne & Peter on ARIES
Excellent repair yard and stopover

We got here on Saturday morning when the yard was closed to deal with a leaking transmission and one more bad water hose. Called ahead to let the dock master know, and he asked that we check in on Ch16 after the lock and bridge – coming southbound. After checking in we were directed to a slip around the back in the basin, where the dock master was waiting to help us settle in.
We spent the weekend here – walking distance to groceries, several restaurants, shopping. Very convenient location. Showers are limited on the property, a fairly long wait one day. Laundry facilities in the yard and a dry cleaner next door if you want it!
Monday morning James came by at 8am and we debugged the transmission – thankfully just some mis-assembly by the transmission shop that had worked on it a month ago, which was easily managed. Replaced a hose and we were underway by 9:30. Great help. Friendly staff. Fast repair. Good internet. Very good experience here.
